Biography of Joe Kilbride

Since 1990 Joe Kilbride has been self-employed as the president and founder of Kilbride Consulting, Inc., in Downers Grove, Illinois. His aim is to help client organizations achieve sustainable improvements in business results. Joe typically helps executives, managers and teams to develop plans, implement strategies, establish systems, design processes, manage projects, deliver training, or solve their most difficult problems. Specialties include strategy development & deployment, balanced scorecards, process design and improvement, problem solving, creativity, decision making, action planning, team effectiveness, and organizational fitness reviews using the internationally recognized Criteria for Performance Excellence.

  • Facilitated numerous leadership teams in organizational assessment, strategy and improvement planning

  • Served as consultant and facilitator for countless front-line, functional, and business-level teams in the design and implementation of improvement strategies

  • Licensed customized versions of his process improvement tools and methodology (Kilbride's Tools for Managers and Teams) to several corporations

  • Designed and facilitated a series of workshops for project teams within one organization that generated savings of over $50 million during an 18-month period

  • Led breakthrough planning sessions for governmental agencies, with up to 120 participants

  • Taught hundreds of internal consultants, managers and leaders the methods of team-based work process improvement during train-the-facilitator sessions in the U.S., Europe, and Asia

  • Facilitated the senior leadership team of a Fortune 20 corporation in its process redesign efforts

  • Supported a start-up in the design and implementation of all its processes, which enabled the organization to win an Award for Business Excellence in its first year of operation

  • Served as senior examiner for Illinois' Lincoln Award for Excellence since its inception in 1995, and as member of the Lincoln Foundation Panel of Judges for the 2001 Award cycle.

In his role as a Senior Examiner for the Lincoln Foundation, Kilbride led eight examiner teams and five site visits of Illinois organizations in the manufacturing, service, government, education and health care sectors. For the past several years, Joe has co-facilitated certification training for the Lincoln Board of Examiners, led New Examiner Orientation sessions, and provided coaching and training for new senior examiners and Foundation staff. He was selected to train over 100 key members of the Illinois State Board of Education to use the Criteria for assessment and improvement of organizational performance. In 2001, Kilbride was appointed to serve on the Lincoln Foundation's Panel of Judges.

Through his work with client organizations in the facilitation of process improvement teams and workshops, Joe has participated in the design and/or redesign of a wide variety of manufacturing, service, and management processes. These have included:

As an external consultant, Joe has done project and consulting work for clients including Amoco, Baxter, BP, Caremed, Commonwealth Edison, Deere & Co., eFiltration.com, First Chicago, GlaxoWellcome, Hewitt Associates, Illinois Department of Employment Security, Illinois State Board of Education, Man-Tra-Con Corporation, Motorola, One Stops of Arlington Heights and Evanston, Spiegel, SIU Edwardsville, South Suburban Hospital, Tellabs, United Process Group, Whirlpool, Workforce Board of Northern Cook County, and Z Frank Chevrolet. Prior to going solo in 1990, he held positions with Rockwell International, Johnson & Johnson, and as a high school teacher of biology, chemistry, and English. He holds a B.S. from Benedictine University and did MBA course work at Illinois Institute of Technology.

Joe teaches a variety of workshops to improve the quality of management, and the effectiveness of work processes and systems, all customized to client needs. Most of these offerings are based upon customized versions of Kilbride's Tools for Managers and Teams, which is a comprehensive set of tools and methods for enhancing leadership, teamwork, customer focus, strategic measurement, creativity, decision making, planning, problem solving and process redesign.
